When orphaned Freckles is hired by the gruff Mr. McLean to guard a stand of valuable timber, he is determined to do the best job he can. Alone, with only a revolve for protection, Freckles patrols miles of trails in the swampy Limberlost. At first, the wilderness terrifies him. But as time goes on, he learns to love the creatures of the Limberlost and, gradually, comes to terms with his past. Then a famous photographer comes to take pictures of the Limberlost, bring with her the beautiful “Swamp Angel.” Soon, the Angel has stolen Freckles’ heart- and given him the keys to the secret of his birth.
